St Stephen's Hall

Subsequently in 1921, HKU admitted its first batch of female students. The need to build a women’s hostel became imminent as the university admitted more ladies. In 1912, CMS established a women’s hostel called St Stephen’s Hall. As the number of students grew rapidly, the Church decide to build a new hall as the site opposite to the University Cricket Ground to replace St John’s Hall and St Stephen’s Hall. But the proposal collapsed due the the Second World War.
