About

Let’s admit it. We have all played with toys when we were young. To us, the toys I’ve played when I was young are representative of the Hong Kong childhood, and when I see them now, I get this really nostalgic feeling. Our cultural heritage is toys, particularly the toys of the Hong Kong childhood which brings back nostalgic feelings. Toys were a very important and significant industry in HK during the 1960s and 70s. Nowadays, the generation has changed and many of the newer toys are mainly electronic and educational ones. Therefore, we chose this topic because toys are beginning to lose their popularity. Toys are, however, reflective of the changes in Hong Kong, because it changes with the social, economic, technological and cultural development of society. Toys can be identified as tangible, movable cultural heritage. By creating a digital gallery on toys, we hope to bring back the childhood memories for the older generations, introduce interesting toys to the younger generations, and also create a platform where interested users can search and browse toys.
