Title

1978 Collapse of a Bun Tower

Description

Before the incident, the number of contestants scrambling up the towers were uncontrolled. That day, about 200 people were climbing up the three towers, and one collapsed as the unsteady structure was unable to support the weight, injuring more than 100 people. The government banned the competition after that. They resumed it in 2005 after organisers agreed to limit the number of participants and use steel A-frames for the main tower's scaffolding, which is erected as a fourth separate tower in a nearby sports ground. In 2007, plastic buns replaced the real ones on the separate tower due to hygiene problems.
