Course Description
Welcome to the Peer Review of Teaching for Reviewers course. This is an online course for reviewers who will be supporting the peer review process. The course comprises of videos and interactive activities in order to prepare reviewers for the summative peer review process. You are highly encouraged to participate in the course activities. The course is in a self-paced mode, meaning you can watch the videos, and try out any of the course activity at your own pace, anywhere, anytime. However, it is the part of the Peer Review Policy that all reviewers must complete either a face-to-face peer review workshop or this online course before they conduct any review.
In this course, there are short videos, an activity and a quiz.
Compulsory Assessment
The quiz is the only one compulsory assessment component that you must complete in order to fulfil the course requirement. You must get over 80% in the quiz to pass the course. Once you have submitted the quiz, you can go to the Progress tab to request for your certificate.
You can complete the course at any time. In case there were technical glitches with the quiz grading, please contact talic@hku.hk for assistance.
Learning Outcomes:
- Understand the principles and objectives of summative peer review of teaching, including its role in evaluating teaching for personnel decisions such as contract renewal, promotion, and tenure.
- Master the process and protocols of conducting effective summative classroom observations, including pre-observation preparation, note-taking during observations, and post-observation report writing.
- Develop skills in providing objective, professional, and unbiased evaluations of teaching practice, while maintaining confidentiality and integrity throughout the peer review process.
