The Peninsula Hotel was built under the aimed to be the finest hotel in East of Suez. The Hotel played an important role in Hong Kong's history, the transition of power from the British to the Japanese took place in the third level of the hotel. During the Japanese colonial era, the hotel was renamed as East Asia Hotel. The name remained until the British retained power in 1945.
