Kalvilakku is a tall and large lamp placed on the stage. It sets the atmosphere and provides lighting to the dance drama. It is usually set with coconut oil. It is still popularly used in Kathakali, although it is slowly being replaced by halogen and LED lamps. You can often find this lamp in churches and temples as well.
