After the opening of the Chinese Section, the traffic of Kowloon-Canton-Railway increased as its service network extended to more areas in Hong Kong.

The British section of the KCR began as a single-track system in 1910. At that time, there were only four permanent stations, which were Tai Po Market, Fanling, the northern terminus at Lowu, and the Kowloon terminus at Tsim Sha Tsui.
